School Information

Tutoring Chicago provides services to children in grades 1-10. We do not enroll children in kindergarten or grades 11-12 at this time.

Tutoring Chicago recruits volunteer tutors to work with our students. These tutors receive training, resources, and support from Tutoring Chicago. They each have their own set of strengths, experience, and educational backgrounds. The majority of our volunteer tutors do not have a background in education or experience working with students that have special needs. If your student needs a volunteer tutor that has experience or specializes in working with students that have special needs, please indicate this need within this section. If your student requires a specialized tutor, please note that it could take more time for your student to receive a match and in some cases, we may not be able to match your student.

This may include their strengths, hobbies, activities, interests, motivations, etc.

Tutoring Chicago may request documentation regarding your student’s IEP so that we can best serve them. Please be prepared to provide documentation upon request.

Based on your students information, your student is best suited for the SMART Program or may qualify for the LIT Program

The SMART program for 1st through 5th graders focuses on five areas of student achievement: Social Emotional Learning, Mathematics, Accountability, Reading, and Technology. Within the context of building trusting relationships with our volunteers, students focus on homework review, executive functioning skills, and developmental experiences that combine learning and reflection. SMART tutoring is offered Monday through Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm at our in-person locations and digitally via Zoom.

The Literacy Intensive Tutoring (LIT) program for 1st through 5th graders provides literacy intervention for individual students. The program is designed for struggling readers as determined by assessments and parent/teacher feedback to help students effectively close the literacy gap and reach their full potential. Students receive one-to-one, customized reading intervention each week with high quality resources and learning tools, including leveled readers, phonics development, sight word recognition, reading novels to develop comprehension, and creative writing. LIT tutoring is offered Monday through Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm at our in-person locations and digitally via Zoom.

Based on your students information, your student is best suited for the Middle School Program

The Middle School Tutoring (MST) program serves 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The curriculum focuses on an array of learning needs, preparing students for a transition into high school and continued success in their educational experiences. The curriculum emphasizes social emotional learning, executive functioning skills, academic coursework across the four core subjects (English, Math, Social Studies, & Science), and high school readiness, including test prep and career exploration. MST is offered Monday through Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm at our in-person locations and digitally via Zoom.

Based on your students information, your student is best suited for the High School Program

The High School Tutoring (HST) program provides 9th-10th grade students with one-to-one tutoring and mentoring in areas essential for success in secondary education. The curriculum covers executive functioning, organizational skills, and preparation for beyond high school. This includes support for academic course success, taking advantage of high school resources, reflection surrounding college and/or career readiness, as well as overall self-management and social awareness skills. High School tutoring is offered Monday through Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm at our in-person locations and digitally via Zoom.

Each student enrolled in a Tutoring Chicago program attends tutoring once a week between 6:00-7:30pm on either Monday, Tuesday OR Wednesday evenings. There will not be an option for independently scheduled tutoring.

Tutoring Chicago will do its best to accommodate your first and second choices when it comes to tutoring night, but can not guarantee accommodation.

If you strongly prefer one night over the others, only select one night. If you are flexible, the more options selected, the better chances we will have of matching your student.
