Erin McPartlin, Executive Director, started with Tutoring Chicago in 2001 as the Program Director. She has served as the organization’s Executive Director since 2005. Prior to leading Tutoring Chicago, Ms. McPartlin taught fifth grade for several years, focusing on special education inclusion and improvements to mathematics curriculum. She holds a BA from Marquette University and teaching certificates for grades K-9 in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Jennifer Bressler, Director of Grants and Evaluation, held the position of Director of the JUF Right Start Program and Early Childhood Initiatives for the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. Jen joins the team with over 14 years of non-profit experience. Prior to her time at the JUF, she held the position of Executive Director at East Village Youth Program (EVYP). She began her career at EVYP as the Director of High School and College Programs in the fall of 2006. Before joining EVYP, Jen spent three years coordinating diversity and anti-bias workshops for the Anti-Defamation League’s A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE Institute. She also taught courses for DePaul University’s Technology & Development Department and was a Chicago Public School Summer Fellow at Prosser Career Academy. Jen holds a bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Simmons College in Boston, MA and a Master’s degree in Education from DePaul University in Chicago.
Sarah Earl, Program Director, joined our staff in summer 2012. She earned her masters degree in Instructional Leadership with a Reading Specialist Certification in 2013. She holds a BS from University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. Prior to joining our staff, Sarah volunteered her time as weekly coordinator, assisting tutors and students.
Carolina Estay, Logan Square Site Manager, holds a B.A. in English and a Translation Degree from Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso, Chile. She was the Spanish Native Assistant at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota where she taught undergraduate classes on Conversation and Hispanic Culture. She also volunteered for the Concordia Language Villages education program in Bemidji. She has taught Spanish and English for grades Pre-K through 6th, both in the U.S. and Chile. She has worked with several Chicago organizations such as The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Chicago Park District and CPS developing and managing after-school foreign language programs.
Kelly Flippin, Director of Development and Marketing, joined the Tutoring Chicago team in the summer of 2018. Prior to joining the team Kelly spent the last 10 years in non-profit development working for organizations such as Reading Partners, and CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, where she focused her time on individual giving, special events, and corporate and foundation relations. Greer Hengesbaugh, Near West Side Site Manager, joined the Tutoring Chicago Team in the summer of 2019. She has been dedicated to serving Chicago communities by educating and empowering youth since she moved to the city from Columbus, Ohio in 2005. Attending DePaul University helped her pursue this path. She is an enthusiastic Double-Demon earning her BA in Political Science in 2009 followed by a Masters in Secondary Education in 2012. Esme Nichols, Lincoln Park Site Manager, joined Tutoring Chicago in the summer of 2019, having previously been a volunteer tutor at our Hyde Park location. Prior to this in the United Kingdom, she served as a high school English Literature and Language teacher, a course coordinator for The Royal Drawing School, and a volunteer for several years with Education Partnerships Africa. EL Da’Sheon Nix, Community Relations Director, is a former football player and a 2004 graduate of Northwestern University who majored in Human Development and Psychological Services and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education and Social Policy. Kimberly Renton, Communications Manager, joined Tutoring Chicago as an intern in the fall of 2014. Kimberly received a B.A. in Comparative Religious Studies from the College of Charleston and her M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from DePaul University. Prior to moving to Chicago, Kimberly served for two years as an AmeriCorps*VISTA with a volunteer tutoring initiative in Columbia, South Carolina.
Sarah Walter, Logan Square LIT Manager, joins the staff of Tutoring Chicago as a former volunteer for the SMART program. She has taught in bilingual and dual language classrooms in Latin America, Chicago Public Schools, and rural northern Illinois, all the while with a focus on early literacy development. She continues to support her community in a different way, co-managing a sustainable vegetable farm in Garfield Park. Tutoring Associate Board (TAB)
The TAB serves as a junior board comprised of dedicated veteran volunteers, whose intent is to support the mission of Tutoring Chicago. The TAB serves as leaders of each classroom, supporting the volunteer population. They also assist with fundraising, event planning and communication.
