December Pair of the Month
When Commitment Meets Community: Brian and Alba

This month, we are thrilled to spotlight Brian and Alba, a tutoring pair now in their second year together and a wonderful example of what consistent, relationship driven tutoring can achieve.

Alba is an incredibly bright student with a natural curiosity and strong academic foundation. Over the past year of tutoring, Brian has not only supported her learning but has thoughtfully challenged her, pushing her to think deeper, ask questions, and build confidence in her abilities. What makes their partnership especially special is Brian’s ability to spark Alba’s motivation and help her discover joy and purpose in learning. Their sessions go beyond completing assignments. They are built on trust, encouragement, and a shared belief in Alba’s potential.

Brian’s impact extends well beyond his one to one work with Alba. As a Tutor Advisory Board member, he brings leadership and thoughtfulness to our broader tutor community. Since he began volunteering with Tutoring Chicago last year, Brian has been deeply engaged at our Mozart Park site, building strong relationships with local community members and passionately helping grow and strengthen our Logan Square programming. His commitment reflects a belief that tutoring is not just about academics, but about showing up consistently for students and neighborhoods.

Brian and Alba’s story is a powerful reminder of what happens when individuals commit to showing up for their community. Strong tutoring relationships are built through consistency, trust, and a deep investment in the neighborhoods they serve. Brian’s work at Mozart and throughout Logan Square reflects the impact one dedicated volunteer can have when they choose to invest locally.

As we celebrate this pair, we invite you to join us in supporting the people and partnerships that strengthen our communities. Investing in local programs means investing in stability, opportunity, and long term impact for students, families, and neighborhoods across Chicago.
