October Program Updates
Thank you to all tutors in their partnership with our program team as we complete pre-assessments for students. We are providing assessments for math and/or literacy in all programs. Tutoring Chicago assessments serve as a way to provide precise data points to help communicate focus areas for tutoring sessions. We design the assessments to test our students on the end-of-year grade level expectations, covering topics that will be taught throughout the school year! Completing the pre-assessment will give tutors a snapshot of topics that your student may have already learned or practiced in previous experiences versus the topics that should be practiced during tutoring sessions. We’re excited to see the progress that will be made throughout the year!
Check out our Learning Applications and Benefits (LABs), which serve as an extension of Tutoring Chicago’s programming. Through our LABs, we aim to provide Tutoring Chicago students with additional educational opportunities outside of weekly tutoring sessions. This includes a continuation of skills practice at home including free subscriptions to educational technology tools provided by Tutoring Chicago. View the current LABs in which your student is enrolled, including login information, in the portal: My Students > View Program Information/Status > View More Details > LABs.
The Extra Resources page in the portal has been updated! Locate this document for important resources such as strategies for focus and engagement, troubleshooting technology challenges, and detailed information about all of our internal assessments. Navigate to this page in the portal: My Dashboard > Tutor Resources > Extra Resources.
To highlight Indigenous Peoples’ Day, students and tutors had the opportunity to learn more about this important day, which recognizes the communities that have lived in the Americas for thousands of years. In the EST program, tutors had the option to work on an activity that explores a traditional Cherokee story called “The First Fire”. Indigenous stories like this one have been passed down through generations and reflect the deep connection their people have with the natural world.
